The Forestry Department has farewelled two dedicated staff members who have immensely contributed to the Department since joining the University. These two gentlemen have played significant roles in their respective expertise to facilitate forestry student training over the years.
The longest serving of the two being Mr. Nosin Ipinu (third from left), a Janitor who served with dignity for 17 years, initially at the forestry plantation and then retiring at the main office complex. On the other hand, Mr. Artis Vinas (fifth from left), a field botanist and herbarium curator who has trained so many students since he started working at the National Botanic Gardens (now PNG Forest Research Institute) in 1972. He joined the University of Papua New Guinea as a herbarium curator in 1979 prior to the then Forestry College (now Bulolo University College) in 1982 to teach Dendrology until he resigned in 2000.
But in 2009, the Forestry Department employed him to teach Forest Botany. The Forestry Department now farewells them both due to retirement age limits and wishes them both good health and prosperity as they spend their time with their families and friends.
