Postgraduate School

Welcome  to  the  website  of  Postgraduate  School  at  the  Papua  New  Guinea  University  of  Technology  (PNGUoT),  the  nation’s  highly  esteemed,  unique  technological  university.  This  website  will  provide  much  needed  information  you  might  require  about  our  graduate  programs,  rules  and  regulations,  admission  requirements,  financial  aid,  how  and  when  to  apply  for  the  program  of  study,  etc.,  in  order  to  successfully  complete  your  chosen  field  of  study  at  this  University.

The  University  was  established  in  1965  in  Port  Moresby  as  ThePapua  New  Guinea  Institute  of  Higher  Technical  Education  and  later  in  1970  it  was  relocated  to  its  current  location  of  Taraka  Campus  in  Lae,  Morobe  Province,  as  The  Papua  New  Guinea  Institute  of  Technology.    In  August  1973,  its  status  was  upgraded  to  The  Papua  New  Guinea  University  of  Technology.  Since  its  inception,  postgraduate  studies  and  research  formed  its  cornerstones  of  excellence,  for  postgraduate  studies  and  research  are  the  vehicles  for  sustainable  innovation.  Without  research,  there  would  be  no  innovation  and  without  innovation  there  would  be  no  ongoing  national  development.  The  PNGUoT  started  its  journey  of  postgraduate  studies  and  research  by  graduating  its  first  PhD  in  1976.  Since  then,  we  have  made  innovation  and  entrepreneurship  strategic  priorities  that  have  contributed  towards  the  sustainable  national  development  in  Papua  New  Guinea.

To  steer  our  PG  Studies  and  Research  programs  to  achieve  their  intended  objectives  and  maintain  quality,  the  Postgraduate  School,  headed  by  a  Dean,  was  approved  in  2007  and  enacted  in  2013.

Even  though  the  PG  School  is  relatively  new,  PNGUoT  has  already  established  its  reputation  in  terms  of  postgraduate  studies  and  research  both  in  PNG  and  in  the  South  Pacific.  All  the  13 academic  departments  have  PG  programs  with  enrolled  students,  from  the  PG  Certificate  up  to  the  PhD  level.  Currently,  PNGUoT  has 21 PhD, 32 Masters, 3 PG Diploma and 2 PG Certificate Programs on offer. Two  academic  departments  are  also  offering  Master  courses  in  the  distance  mode.

The  Postgraduate  School  seeks  cooperation  of  all  the  stakeholders  and  the  partners,  both  national  and  international,  to  remain  competitive  and  focused  on  its  core  value  of  achieving  excellence.  In  collaboration  of  the  academic  Heads  of  Departments,  the  Departmental  Postgraduate  Coordinators,  the  Postgraduate  Committee  and  the  Senior  Executive  Management,  the  Postgraduate  School  will  continue  to  provide  leadership  and  vision  of  postgraduate  education  to  all  our  current  and  prospective  students

We  are  committed  to  serve  the  university  and  the  postgraduate  students  and  I  trust  that  you  will  find  the  information  on  our  website  informative  and  useful.
